/r/games was great for news but terrible for this sort of thing. the same thing happened with Forspoken. was it a fantastic game? not in my opinion, but the hate was so hyperbolic towards it. it's fine for stuff to just be mid.
i will say in redfall's case, I'm assuming the over-the-top hate came from the fact that Xbox isn't putting out (what some would perceive to be) bangers, and the console wars never really left this hobby, lol
