Stoltenberg [...] was a hardliner on all things Putin and Russia who had cooperated with the American intelligence community since the Vietnam War.

The only problem: At the time when Stoltenberg is said to have made a name for himself as a henchman for the US secret services in the Vietnam War, he was just 13 years old.
