I work with people from India and China on visas, and a lot of them are waiting a decade or more for permanent residency. I'm fortunate to come from a country with relatively fewer applicants so got mine in a little less than 5 years. I can't imagine the stress of having to wait 10+ years not knowing if you'll ever be approved.
