Example:

  1. Articles must be relevant to politics. Links must be to quality and original content. Articles should be worth reading. Clickbait, stub articles, and rehosted or stolen content are not allowed. Check your source for Reliability and Bias here.
  2. Be civil, No violations of TOS. It’s OK to say the subject of an article is behaving like a (pejorative, pejorative). It’s NOT OK to say another USER is (pejorative). 4. Vote based on comment quality, not agreement. This community aims to foster discussion; please reward people for putting effort into articulating their viewpoint, even if you disagree with it.

This would be pretty funny if he weren't elected to a major institution....

Do real doctors call for locking up public health officials for doing their jobs?

[–] ubermeisters@lemmy.world 32 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago) (2 children)

.. you mean the same Rand Paul who:

  • Civil Rights Act: Paul has been criticized for his stance on the Civil Rights Act. He has stated that while he abhors racism, he doesn't like the idea of telling private business owners to serve customers of all races.
  • Merger with Mexico and Canada: Paul suggested that the U.S. is secretly planning a European Union-style merger with Mexico and Canada.
  • Nuclear Iran: He has stated that a nuclear Iran isn't necessarily a threat to U.S. national security.
  • Medicare: Paul, a practicing optometrist, has suggested reining in Medicare but not its payments to doctors.
  • Mountaintop coal mining: He has controversially stated that mountaintop coal mining is good for real estate values.
  • Malpractice lawsuits: Paul faced two malpractice lawsuits between 1993 and 2010; he was cleared in one case while the other was settled for $50,000.
  • Physical attack by neighbor: In 2017, Paul's neighbor physically attacked him, causing him to suffer five rib fractures.

  • Letter from Trump to Putin: Sen. Rand Paul delivered a letter from President Trump to Russia President Putin that emphasized the importance of further engagement between the two leaders.
  • Topics of interest: The letter mentioned topics of interest that Paul wanted to discuss with Putin, such as countering terrorism, enhancing legislative dialogue and resuming cultural exchanges.
  • Paul's defense of Trump: Paul was one of the few prominent defenders of Trump after his controversial summit with Putin in Helsinki last month, where Trump sided with Putin over U.S. intelligence agencies.
  • Paul's visit to Moscow: Paul visited Moscow this week where he met with Russian officials and announced that Russian lawmakers have agreed to visit the U.S. Capitol for the first time in almost three years.
  • Another meeting between Trump and Putin: The letter also came after Putin publicly invited Trump to Russia for another face-to-face meeting. The White House had previously delayed a second meeting between the two leaders.

We don't really know what the letter said.

[–] jasondj@ttrpg.network 1 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago)

It was a birthday card, but inside he said he “Changed the launch codes to ‘1437’” because he was “thinking of his sweet Vladdy Daddy Putin-Pie.”

(That was a joke, but coincidentally today, October 7th, is Putin’s birthday. He’s 71.)

I can't even tell you if there's actually a letter if we're being honest, neither can you. Stop being pedantic.

[–] squiblet@kbin.social 1 points 1 year ago

I'm not sure how you get 'pedantic' out of what I said. My question is where the information about the content of the letter came from and whether it's reliable, and whether that's all it said. That's different than questioning whether it exists at all.

Paul suggested that the U.S. is secretly planning a European Union-style merger with Mexico and Canada.

This kind of shit is a pet peeve of mine. Some version of this tripe has been floating around the right for 20 years if not more.

  • Step 1: Invent some ridiculous premise and declare it an existential threat
  • Step 2: Rile up your base
  • Step 3: Produce exactly zero evidence
  • Step 4: Move on to something else for a few years, occasionally reminding people about Step 1 (but glossing over Step 3)
  • Step n: Bring up the nonsense from Step 1 and declare that it was only defeated thanks to your unwavering determination to stop the demonic leftist commie liberal socialists

It's bad comedy, but it works on the credulous when it lines up with what they already believe.

Wait so in the US you can just make up your own medical certification board, certify yourself and start practicing?!

[–] worldwidewave@lemmy.world 30 points 1 year ago

Those are the freedoms that Red states keep screaming about defending.

[–] Staple_Diet@aussie.zone 2 points 1 year ago

No, he left a certification board that brought in policies such as 10yr recertification. This kind of thing isn't uncommon amongst specialties and professions, with fracturing societies and groups. His licence is governed by the State.
