It's honestly sad how jaded I've become about climate action. I'm fairly convinced it's already much, much too late to talk about emission reduction, when we should be talking more about survival since it's clear that emission reduction just isn't happening as fast as it needs to – mainly thanks to an insane economic system based on infinite growth and essentially designed to put psychopaths in power.
This will be the coolest year any of us will see. There's no way around that anymore.
That jadedness is exactly what fossil corpos want from us. The less our governments do, the longer they'll keep raking in subsidies and filling their pockets.
Carbon reduction still needs to be top priority even while we prepare for the worst case.
Sadly, big companies truly do not care. I was part of a net-zero project at my company (major polluter/CO2 emitter) and it is getting cut right now. I joined in hopes of helping fix it, but I simply can't fight endless bureaucracy and rich people.
I can only speak for my project, but it's not even just the CEO/board in my case. Mid-levels burned so much money that the project became completely infeasible (ie. negative return and scaling would make it worse).
