The rough and loose technique uses an excavator to create 30 cm to 100 cm deep pits with similar height mounds to increase microsites and slowing and capturing water.

Radical! I hadn't known about soil pores before. But it makes sense, especially in terms of why we till soil.

We till soil as a form of weed control and a priming effect (N release due to mineralization of the organic matter by microbes).
