An online space for the vegans of Lemmy.

Rules and miscellaneous:

  1. We take for granted that if you engage in this community, you understand that veganism is about the animals. You either are vegan for the animals, or you are not (this is not to say that discussions about climate/environment/health are not allowed, of course)
  2. No omni/carnist apologists. This is not a place where to ask to be hand-holded into veganims. Omnis coddling/backpatting is not tolerated, nor are /r/DebateAVegan-like threads
  3. Use content warnings and NSFW tags for triggering content
  4. Circlejerking belongs to /c/vegancirclejerk
  5. All posts should abide by Lemmy's Code of Conduct

they're incorrectly using the term "vegan" in place of plant based to refer to the composition of the product, to refer to the fact that it contains no animal products, therefore the point of a "vegan" kitkat is that the finished chocolate doesn't contain animal products, which is an important consideration for some people, regardless of the circumstances of production

Yeah I get that, and what I'm saying is that it's a ridiculous consideration, and it feels like the epitome of performative moralism

sure, i agree with that

almost the entirety of the vegan products trend is just capitalist profiteering off of popular trends, often with no consideration of the actual implications of what veganism means 🤷‍♀️
