Police forces across Europe are increasingly cracking down on climate protesters
(www.energymonitor.ai)
Discussion of climate, how it is changing, activism around that, the politics, and the energy systems change we need in order to stabilize things.
As a starting point, the burning of fossil fuels, and to a lesser extent deforestation and release of methane are responsible for the warming in recent decades:
How much each change to the atmosphere has warmed the world:
Recommended actions to cut greenhouse gas emissions in the near future:
Anti-science, inactivism, and unsupported conspiracy theories are not ok here.
The state is equally responsible as oil companies.
Remember who they are when your house gets destroyed in a wildfire, your anger is justified and they deserve retribution
In democracies, you have the power to change ge who runs the state. That's generally a lot easier than violent retribution
Democracy is great in that it lets you choose the boots of your opponent to some degree -- some are stompier than others . But we should not expect that the state can or will solve any of the big problems.
The state is a tool used to maintain power.
We have to solve the problems by building the future directly, now.
Yeah it's working out great.
The problem is that a huge portion of humans are easily influenced and susceptible to propaganda.
If one party tells you that you have to adapt your lifestyle since using gas and oil for transportation and heating and eating meat every day is not going to work for longer and another party lies in your face that it's not a problem then people will totally fall for the bullshit that lets them live in ignorance.
Just look at how often you read the "100 companies" bullshit here that is shifting the blame but completely ignoring that personal responsibility has to come first so politicians have a chance. If a politician would suggest to triple prices on gas prices, flying and eating meat that politician would never win an election even though it would be necessary to do.
Sure the 100 billionaires that are emitting 1000x as much as a normal person are gigantic assholes and their emissions should be brought down but changing the emissions of a whole country has a far bigger effect.
Too bad we're fresh out of democracies. All we have left are oligarchies and corporatocracies.
