Should I just be like surprise me and provide a rough understanding of what I want.

I would advise not doing that.

Start poking around on Pinterest or some other sites. Find a photo of what you want, show it to them and ask “can you make it look like this?”

Photo references are 100x better than verbal descriptions. And it’s wise to not say “surprise me” to a stylist you don’t know very very well.

I second this. Stylists have a tendency to give newly out trans women feminine men's cuts instead of women's cuts if left to their own devices. Going in there with clear ideas and expectations means they won't fall In to that trap.

I'm going to a trans friendly place

Don't get me wrong, I don't mean they won't be friendly. What I mean is that if they haven't dealt with a lot of trans folk, then they sometimes have trouble really understanding what it is that you need, and will fall in to their familiar defaults. And that's where an image or a style comes in handy, because it gives them something to work towards

Yeah, true. Really nervous honestly given my entire life my hair style has been buzzed off cause my dad. Than I just let it grow it out. So I have no idea what even works and I'm really nervous.

It sounds like you are going to be in for some experimentation to discover what works for you.

To start with, you can look into what kind of cuts are considered flattering for your specific face shape. Here is a handy resource for figuring out what face shape you have: https://www.realsimple.com/beauty-fashion/what-is-my-face-shape

Then you can search for stuff like “flattering women’s hairstyles for round shaped faces” or whatever is appropriate for you.
