Discussion of climate, how it is changing, activism around that, the politics, and the energy systems change we need in order to stabilize things.

As a starting point, the burning of fossil fuels, and to a lesser extent deforestation and release of methane are responsible for the warming in recent decades: Graph of temperature as observed with significant warming, and simulated without added greenhouse gases and other anthropogentic changes, which shows no significant warming

How much each change to the atmosphere has warmed the world: IPCC AR6 Figure 2 - Thee bar charts: first chart: how much each gas has warmed the world. About 1C of total warming. Second chart: about 1.5C of total warming from well-mixed greenhouse gases, offset by 0.4C of cooling from aerosols and negligible influence from changes to solar output, volcanoes, and internal variability. Third chart: about 1.25C of warming from CO2, 0.5C from methane, and a bunch more in small quantities from other gases. About 0.5C of cooling with large error bars from SO2.

Recommended actions to cut greenhouse gas emissions in the near future:

Northen India had a godawful heatwave followed by floods. Meanwhile the seasonal monsoon which is necesssary for crops and to meet water needs is missing in Southern India. So the country is experiencing floods & drought at different parts at the same time. This is playing havoc on peoples lives, livelihood, and food prices.

Food inflation is at such a high that we've stopped export of rice, onions, and tomatoes. Sugar is next on the list & so is wheat. Food-impot dependent countries are in for a hell of a time.

No politician wanted to do any climate change reduction because of the impact on the economy. Now they get large inflation because of food prices, reconstruction of infrastructure after floods and reduced productivity because of the heat with no idea how to fix it.

Most of India's politicians get voted to power for their caste, religion, gender, criminality, and the money they spend to buy votes. Very rarely is anyone voted to power for their progressive ideas. So the current hell is self-made, as far as Indian people are concerned.

Unfortunately, I think this is how the near future will be for a lot of places. I hope I’m wrong and I definitely hope circumstances in India will change favourably soon.

Second Great Depression is bound to happen once all the bread baskets collapse due to climate change
