Jesus, that's heartbreaking. Her quote makes it sound like he passed before the game started.
He passed on Friday, so she wasn't told ahead of the game deliberately.
Honestly kinda horrible thing to do to her, though I guess it's not like she coulda done something about it — I'd've wanted to go home and visit one last time though.
The story said he'd been dealing with a lengthy illness. It would be hard to know who made the decision and what she thought about it. I can imagine everything from a straight up cynical blackout from the RFEF, to her having discussed it with him before the tournament, and anything in between.
Honestly, given it's the RFEF and everything that's happened so far, I'd assume the worst.
Yeah I guess I can see the good will behind it but I would've wanted to known asap.
