People should decide to vote for a party they agree with rather than the faux two-sided coin we deal with today. We are multi-party system yet everyone treats it as bipartisan.

The two parties WANT you to think you are "wasting your vote" by voting for something other than them. The fact that you CAN vote for another party disproves this. Vote for a party you actually believe in, and keep voting, spread the message and you will see change.

All it takes is one vote, and maybe you won't be that vote, but you can tell someone else to do the same. Maybe they won't be that vote, but the next person can be, or the next person. You see where I'm getting at?

That's called a movement, and it starts with you.

Why are people downvoting this?

[–] lolcatnip@reddthat.com 4 points 1 year ago (3 children)

Because voting for third parties never works and it often leads to some asshole like Trump being elected. Idealism does not win elections.

Also its what got Wilson elected, y'know the guy who showed birth of a nation at the whitehouse.

I have the first hand experience that not voting for smaller parties is much worse. What ends up happening is people just don't vote instead, or vote for who's set to win (which would be Trump in this case).

In Türkiye, main opposition bullied everyone else like this (to a point where a candidate withdrew). I know a lot of people who got bullied in real life for not supporting the major candidate. What ended up happening is they didn't vote or vote for Erdoğan out of spite.

Who do you think benefitted from this entire ordeal? Erdoğan. Trump will do the same and possibly gonna sweep the elections. Also he's probably gonna call for more people to vote because the position he's in can be capitalized upon as "Biden is trying to eliminate the main opposition" which actually will drive more people to vote. Erdoğan did the same exact thing as well.

Good luck.

Trump was part of the republican party

Also you see what you did there? You said the magic words "third party"

There IS no third party. Under this political system, all parties are supposed to be treated equally, instead we have a faux multi-party system that is actually bipartisan with the illusion of choice, considering that both parties are equally bad for the country.

It's like choosing between eating shit and drinking piss. You really think Trump is worse than Joe Biden? They are both equally fucking trash. Trump is a fucking lunatic that can move his hands and make mouth noises, and Biden is a spineless, senile fucking narcissist that can barely walk.

One of the biggest moments that stuck out to me was the presidential debate between those two. Even a foreigner with no knowledge of US politics could point it out. Every four years we are faced with pretty much the same situation.

Your vote is not wasted by voting for another party, your vote is fucking wasted by throwing it away on one of those two parties. "oH, i MiGhT aS wElL vOtE fOr OnE oF tHe TwO bIg PaRtIeS bEcAuSe EvErYoNe ElSe WiLl So VoTiNg FoR sOmEoNe ElSe Is A wAsTe!!!".

People say "oh it's one vote, one vote doesn't matter" PRECISELY, so why not fucking vote for a party that follows your ideals? If everyone did this instead of doing the hive mind brainwashed bullshit that they do instead, maybe we would actually see change. Instead, we will just watch our economy get worse, our climates become even more destroyed, poverty rates rise, non-straight-non-white people lose rights.

America, land of the free? Lol, yeah fucking right, give me a break. I've never heard a more laughable joke in my life, and people with your mindset contribute to that joke.

Sorry you refuse to live in reality.

refuse to live in reality

Lol.

Shut the fuck up, you have no idea what the actual political situation in the US is like, no one does.

"Live in reality" give me a break. What you see in the news isn't reality, what do you think the whole Alien fiasco going on right now is possibly covering up? None of us are living in reality.

They call it the "American Dream" for a reason. Keep on dreaming sheep, they'll be counting us like them when they have the rest of their fingers around our throats, so long as we keep voting for the tyrants in the bipartisan system.

[–] havokdj@lemmy.world -1 points 1 year ago

You know exactly why, it's because it is the truth and they didn't want to hear it. This is why I try to stay out of political discussions because it always boils down to "yeah well I'm X team and the Y team is bad because X said so!".

People say they want change yet here we are, restricting freedoms with each election, the only difference being the types of freedoms restricted change when the other party finally gets into office.

You can read the history books, these people are not your friends, all they care about is controlling the people, and they are so dick-brained that they can't even agree amongst themselves how they should do it.

US is two-party system. If you want to change it you need to get rid of FPTP first.
