looking for @rimworldporn@rimworld.gallery (already exists on lemmy.world) and @rimworldart@rimworld.gallery gives me no results.

Update: Solved, we have to search for !rimworldart, not @rimworldart on lemmy

I do see the request come in on the server

Well, trying to open it in a browser throws a JSON error. I'm not sure if this is an issue on lemmy.world's or RimWorld.gallery's side.
