Why is she suddenly on a plane in the last panel?
Train or bus, but yes, how is that connected to growing?

More about the contemplative mood of watching the sunset I think
Going home, sadly looking into the sun set because she realized how miserable her life is. That's my interpretation
I think its the dude, not the girl. He has a moment of clarity in the second to last panel and decides to go travel to try to foster personal growth. At least, that's how I read it
They both look like girls to me
