Officers then attempted to enter the establishment. However, the doors had been locked by staff inside who were concerned for their safety, having previously dealt with disgruntled customers who they had found to be intimidating.

I didn't realize that this wasn't an onion article and thought it would go like

"Officers then attempted to enter the establishment. However, the doors had been locked by PULL-signs and could not be forcibly pushed open."

After reading the article though, this seems like the cops are on that mental level. So yeah...
