Not even sure why you're being downvoted. Ignore the historical precedent of Lincoln v Davis and the 698,000 Americans who died arguing the issue. Neglect the practical legalism of a national schism or the large rump caucus within your state that is diametrically opposed to the idea.
Even assuming a velvet divorce, the land still isn't going anywhere. New York will be the same distance from DC as its always been. You'll still be joined at the hip to the petrodollar, the interstate highway and airport and rail networks, and the English language. The policies a President Trump implements will still cascade into the New York economy, whether he's your President or Eric Adams or Andrew Cuomo gets to be The Liberated Republic of New York's new Glorious Leader.
What exactly have you solved? You're now two Senators and Twenty-Six House Reps less influential in the world's most powerful governing body, and you've ceded the corresponding EC votes... all so your new national leadership can, what? Suck up to Trump like Trudeu, Macron, Keir Starmer, and every other world leader have been for the last month? Or is the plan to realign with Iran, Cuba, and China?
Give me a fucking break.
Agree to the realities you described.
What you'd gain would be on other topics, like abortion, and healthcare.
I am not advocating for secession, but I think the authors would be aware of the limitations you mentioned and instead focused on other wins.
States already have implemented their own healthcare solutions. Massachusetts implemented Obamacare under Mitt Romney, ffs. States like California and New York aren't incapable of doing Universal Coverage or NHS, like Canada or the UK, because they lack the autonomy. They're unwilling to do so, because even the brightest blue legislatures/governors are still tied up in the corrupt for-profit health care systems.
That, and they've devoted enormous chunks of their budget to the domestic security state (cops / prisons / state surveillance) which cuts into what the legislature is willing to spend overall.
I mean to say they would be bound by the standards of Canada (good better or worse as they may be)
Also I thought you were following me then realized I replied to you in two threads. Lol. Lemmybesmol
