Agree to the realities you described.

What you'd gain would be on other topics, like abortion, and healthcare.

I am not advocating for secession, but I think the authors would be aware of the limitations you mentioned and instead focused on other wins.

States already have implemented their own healthcare solutions. Massachusetts implemented Obamacare under Mitt Romney, ffs. States like California and New York aren't incapable of doing Universal Coverage or NHS, like Canada or the UK, because they lack the autonomy. They're unwilling to do so, because even the brightest blue legislatures/governors are still tied up in the corrupt for-profit health care systems.

That, and they've devoted enormous chunks of their budget to the domestic security state (cops / prisons / state surveillance) which cuts into what the legislature is willing to spend overall.
