The vegan place to discuss things.

Veganism is a philosophy and way of living which seeks to exclude—as far as is possible and practicable—all forms of exploitation of, and cruelty to, animals for food, clothing or any other purpose; and by extension, promotes the development and use of animal-free alternatives for the benefit of animals, humans and the environment. In dietary terms it denotes the practice of dispensing with all products derived wholly or partly from animals.

I've mentioned it in weekly threads before but I've started taking wheel pottery classes. It's very nice to just hang out with some clay.

I brought earplugs this week and it was way less overwhelming than previous weeks. I haven't gotten used to being out in public again!

What do they have you making so far?

Neat! Looks like some progress between the pieces. Better than my awful pot haha, it's sister pot has cracked during drying and needs surgery.

I'm guessing they get smoothed after getting 'leather hard' or whatever? I don't know anything about wheel pottery.

You'd think... But the order of production is top right, bottom, top left lol

All we've done so far is throw, we learn about trimming this week.

Oh in that case, running out of beginner's luck? :p

I suppose taller things are harder?

To be honest, I don't know!

I think I'm still not confident or comfortable with the basics. My partner is catching on a lot quicker than me, but has agreed to book some practice time in the studio (where you just play with clay vs keeping anything) before doing another course.

Well hopefully your partner is a good teacher! and can pass on their wisdom. Or maybe can do one of those romcom scenes with the hands on yours guiding hug.

Still, no substitute for just messing around when it comes to any craft. As long as you enjoy the process there's not really any disadvantage to taking longer to get the knack of something, unless you're trying to make a living of it.
