Linked posts are crap, because they link to a specific instance and you cannot participate unless you are on that instance or search the /c for the topic on your home instance yourself. At least i have not found a way to link to posts in a way that keeps you on your instance like with linking (distant) communities.

Also, for wiki style information (so that people would just read), it should be okay to link to another instance
