Pretty obviously a fear tactic against their own soldiers to discourage surrendering, because itβs quite well known that UA troops generally try to treat POWs as reasonably as possible. Pretty insane that Russian officers are going to such insane and absurd lengths to discourage desertion and surrender, instead of, you know, doing some actual fucking leadership.
Iβm honestly shocked that fragging russian officers isnβt super widespread at this point
This is not true, many POW's have tried to commit suicide rather than being captured, because they were told they'd be tortured to death if they were captured.
These soldiers surrendering are acting against the propaganda they've been fed.
It's not within the officer's power to dictate how a conscript is treated in the churn. In that situation, I'd probably take the risk of getting shelled by either side, instead of the certainty of getting killed in combat or court martial (or whatever the fuck they have in Russia) for desertion.
How sure are we that it's not?
