Considering the issues separating the mycelium from the organic growth medium, my first thought was, is it possible to grow hydroponically? This may make later steps a bit easier.
I've kept mycelium alive for months in a jar of sterile water, so i assume with the right nutrients it would be able to propagate, although i can't find anyone who has reported on it or posted a video.
good question.
oh, but growing mycelium sheets on agar is very common, so there is a way to grow a mat of mycelium without having to use a complicated substrate.
