Inspired by /r/debateavegan, Discuss With Vegans is an open space to ask questions and have discussions with vegans. It is open to vegans and nonvegans alike.

Rules:

  1. No hate speech. This includes but is not limited to attacks based on: race, sex, sexual orientation, religion, gender identity, disability, and ethnic or national origin.

  2. Potentially offensive content must be spoilered. It must be understood that what looks like food to a non-vegan is gore to vegans. All posts and comments that contain depictions of violence against animals, and imagery of products made from animals, must be spoilered.

  3. Keep submissions and comments on topic.

  4. Don't be rude to others. This includes using slurs, making troll accusations, or publicly doubting someone's sanity/intelligence.

  5. Argue in good faith. Users should act with the intention of having honest and meaningful discussion.

  6. Don't abuse the block feature. Do not block another user just so you can have the last word. Do not block members of community (who are otherwise in good standing) in order to preemptively remove them from discussion. Please let us know about potential block abuse via modmail and reports.

  7. No low-quality content. All posts and comments should contain more than just a meme, quip, sneer, or throwaway remark. Comments that contain meta-commentary about the subject of a post or its submitter should also include substantive, contributing content. No calls to "just google it." Do not comment with a bare link to an external source that does not also include relevant context. All posted topics must include supporting text in the body.

Thought I'd start populating this sub. Seems nice!

So, say you rescue chickens or raise them yourself without the intention of eating them. And they just live their lives and lay unfertilized eggs, e.g. eggs that will never become chickens. And the hen just lays them. Would it be alright to eat the eggs since they're the equivalent of menstruation?

I don't have a source because I'm asking the question so I don't know...

Okay I thought you used the questions as rhetorical devices in your argument. For me tge way you formulated it seemed like you were sure about it or atleast that its your opinion.

Not saying its the best article, but its one about this topic: https://freefromharm.org/farm-animal-welfare/backyard-chickens-expanding-understanding-harm/

Most relevant part for me:

What Do We Do With the Eggs If We Don’t Eat Them?

When we let go of the anthropocentric notion that chickens’ eggs belong to us, then what could we potentially do with the eggs, if we instead wanted to do something to benefit these most exploited of birds? Well, we can hard boil the eggs and grind up the shells. We can add the shells to the chickens’ grit to give them back some of the vast amounts of calcium that is leached from their bones to produce all of those shells. We can also feed their eggs back to them in order to restore some of the protein and other nutrients they lose in the process of laying far more eggs than their bodies were ever intended to produce.
