I could use some help on this one.

As someone who’s a renaissance fair adult, is the joke that rennies are more open to polyamory, or is it that there are more renaissance shows to visit?

[–] zero_spelled_with_an_ecks@programming.dev 27 points 2 months ago (1 children)

Yes, they are more likely to be poly. The camps for workers are very dramatic because many people suck at relationships.

Lmao damn dude. I mean you’re not wrong.

You spend 2 months within spitting distance of each other with nothing but some thin cloth for walls and everyone either knows or is in everyone’s business. It’s sorta like being forever in high school. There’s gonna be drama.

It’s sorta like being forever in high school. There’s gonna be drama.

That sounds awful.

I interpreted it as Disney adults only consume Disney content while renaissance fair adults consume a wider variety.

I kind of feel like the corporate bootlicking is a more relevant implied criticism among so many other things tbh.

Surely My beloved copyright destroying ultra litigious art sweatshop wouldn't use my one time free trial to their streaming service to limit the liability of my children's deaths at their hands.

[–] PineRune@lemmy.world 13 points 2 months ago (3 children)

At this point, I'd assume both. Also, people are wearing fur-suits to Renaissance fairs now.

[–] SharkEatingBreakfast@sopuli.xyz 24 points 2 months ago (2 children)

Fursuiters will use any costume event as an excuse to break out & wear their suit. And can you blame them? They're expensive! They wanna get as much use out of them as possible. Plus.. it's fun!

Honestly, love to see it.

[–] mipadaitu@lemmy.world 19 points 2 months ago

Better be a quality suit with good cooling. Every time I go to a ren fair it's hot as balls.

[–] Mac@mander.xyz -1 points 2 months ago

plus it's not like they can go to their own events after they get them shut down for being absolutely rabid.

[–] Warl0k3@lemmy.world 15 points 2 months ago (1 children)

To be faire, people have been wearing fursuits to faires since fur suits first existed.

(approximately 1989)

[–] cannedtuna@lemmy.world 6 points 2 months ago

Now? Furrys have been at fairs for at least 15 years by now, probably longer.

Also, the Venn diagram of the kink community and the ren faire community is a circle.

[–] Maven@lemmy.zip 4 points 2 months ago (1 children)

Polyamory, notably, has nothing to do with kink.

Though I agree. Ren faire people are kinky af

[–] Semi_Hemi_Demigod@lemmy.world 3 points 2 months ago (1 children)

Totally agree. Though, as someone in all three communities I can say the overlap is significant.

[–] Maven@lemmy.zip 2 points 2 months ago

That's true. I just like to point out that they are different because people still think that Polyamory is a sex thing when sex is fully unrelated.

[–] morphballganon@mtgzone.com 3 points 2 months ago

I figured the former, but I am a poly person who knows poly ren faire people.
