My cross-stitch has been on the back burner for months. It's half done and cute. I need to pull it out for TV-stitching, but I just haven't. Fingers crossed this post/comment is the kick in the pants I need to do that.
The pattern is a vintage kit. It's a unicorn surrounded by flowers printed on non-aida fabric (I'll post a picture once I get home and pull the piece out). One thing this pattern has taught me is that I much prefer the precision of aida and counted cross-stitch--it stresses me to not 100% cover the printed pattern with a stitch.
I started with patterns and had a miserable experience because the first kits I got were on 26 count and labeled as "for children" or "beginner friendly" oof! Moving to printed ones saved my interest in the hobby but I get stressed out when the print doesn't match the aida. Now I'm back to patterns and buying my own threads and having a blast! Pattern keeper makes things even easier.
My first cross stitch project was a small Christmas tree in a plastic frame. I got it for 50¢ at a charity shop because I know myself--I have a habit of picking up new hobbies and not following through. The weave was wide and the pattern didn't take long to finish.
Found my current project in my photos:

I've done most of the flowers on the outside.
