I'm with you on this one. This sort of thing robs him of the wholesomeness of his persona with a genuine untruth. It's a big turnoff for some people.
I'm not sure who you think is going to be turned off. He mentioned the couch meme in somewhat distant language, so that if you didn't know what it was then you wouldn't know what he was talking about. The prudish folk who would be upset at such a meme's existence didn't look it up.
And everyone else recognizes that while the man looks to be wholesome in general, he's not Mother Teresa and no one wants him to be. He's supposed to be the vice president, not Santa Claus. He's not allowed to tell a joke? Come on now. You can find something better to worry about than this.
They're talking about the meme. Walz's comment was an "if you know, you know" kind of joke. Totally fine and funny. The meme, however, distilled it down to a "direct" quote that he didn't even say, calling Vance a "couch fucker"--you don't need to look that up to take issue with it.
I'm not sure I have an issue with the meme, but I see their point.
