I miss a presidential campaign with pizzazz.

Whenever Trump tries to do pizzazz, it just comes off as terrifying. Or Kid Rock. Biden’s idea of pizzazz was getting sprinkles on his ice cream cone.

I thought Biden dropping out and Harris stepping up was a huge mistake, and I am so very glad that I was wrong.

I was wrong in thinking it was too late in the season. This campaign is doing a great job of proving they can get the message out in just a couple of months.

Yes, it seems there is no reason an election campaign has to be so long

[–] chonglibloodsport@lemmy.world 2 points 4 months ago

The reason is brinkmanship. You can see the same thing with the date Christmas season begins at retail stores.

In some ways it makes sense if one or more candidates are people we know very little about, just to give us all time to get to know them, and to give them time to reveal more about who they really are. But when we already know as much about the candidates as we do this year, 3 months is more than enough.

When things drag on it almost feels like special interests are just vetting their pony. Like how can we make this one trot? Will they walk backwards? What else can we make them do?

It always draws us into the center and if the right is skewing even further right we all get dragged right.

We don't need a year to make us feel sick of the process and everyone involved.

Yeah, I’m having flashbacks to the Obama campaign. Energy, cool people, good music.

Trump’s rallies are exactly what Harris said they are. They’re angry and weird.

Yeah, remember when Obama's administration refused to readmit MF Doom after his international tour because he was a dreamer and not technically a citizen? And ten years later he died abroad never having the opportunity to return home - Obama really loved the artists.

Let's not let nostalgia overwhelm the truth.

[–] Notyou@sopuli.xyz 5 points 4 months ago

I did not know that about MF DOOM. That sucks.

[–] RizzRustbolt@lemmy.world 2 points 4 months ago (1 children)

Remember when Common did a whole ass set in the East Room?

[–] Notyou@sopuli.xyz 5 points 4 months ago

I do remember that. Mainly because Fox reported him as a "gangster rapper." Common? Gantsa rap? Really? 😂

[–] xmunk@sh.itjust.works 7 points 4 months ago

Half the time he's just using the music without fucking permission anyways.

I'm getting 2008 vibes when you just knew Obama was inevitable.

[–] EleventhHour@lemmy.world 5 points 4 months ago* (last edited 4 months ago)

I said the same thing to a coworker about an hour and a half ago.

Hope and change

I'm glad you were wrong too and willing to admit it. The denial that some people were in was insane on here.
