I'm not sure it's possible to remove the horses from the competitive horse dancing event.

I think synchronised horse swimming has been nixed already.

Ah my bad. I assumed it was that case. In pentathlon they get assigned a horse that they don't know and need to perform more or less with a stranger. There was a case of an athlete whipping that horse like crazy last Olympic because it wouldn't do what she wanted

This just reminded me that there's an amusement park near where I grew up where back in like the twenties and '30s and stuff, the idea of entertainment was to force a horse to run up a giant ramp out above a lake, maybe 50 feet up and have it jump into the water as a high diving horse.

Horse diving, it's still a thing just extremely uncommon and highly defended but the like 5 people that still do it.
