I've wanted a soundbar for a couple years now. Every time I look for one, I don't find anything that meets all my requirements, or I get overwhelmed looking and just give up.

My setup:

  • We have an SBC hooked up to my dumb TV through HDMI. HDMI handles both audio and video for the computer. We never use any other input to the TV, so this is the only audio concern here. This is currently a Radxa Rock 5b, but I'm considering replacing it with an x86 NUC or mini-PC.
  • We have a cheap little record player nearby. This sounds fine but could really stand to have better speakers attached. It has stereo RCA output.

What I want:

  • All sound to be output through one speaker/set of speakers. Ideally it would be a soundbar, since the TV is mounted above a fireplace and we can run the soundbar along the mantle.
  • If the speakers have to toggle between inputs to get sound between the PC and the record player, so be it, but it would be much nicer if the two were mixed. We'll never have a record playing and have something on the TV, anyways.
  • I'd prefer not to have any extra cables coming from the PC to the speaker. I'm trying to avoid any wires showing, and so I'd like to keep the PC audio through HDMI if possible.

I'd love to know if such a product exists. Please, internet denizens, give me your recommendations if you have any.

I'm looking for an inexpensive label maker that can print small labels. I need to label various things around my house for my sanity (outlet/breaker mapping, coax endpoint mapping, etc).

I was going to buy a NIIMBOT D110, but then I saw in their FAQ that they put an IC (chip) into their labels and the printer won't print if it can't sense it. I really don't want to support a company that DRMs their consumables, if I can help it.

Can anyone recommend a good, small, inexpensive label maker? Preferably one that doesn't have sketchy DRM embedded.

I’m trying to find a pair between 100-200$,decent sound, a pair that will last, and optionally a pair which aren’t a total pain to repair. Fairbuds are my first choice but they’ve not available in my region so what are my other options?

Three years ago, I bought a pair of Red Wing Irish Setter boots with steel toes. Two years ago, I got a new job that requires me to go through metal detectors pretty often, and it's a pain. I've been waiting for these boots to wear out so I can justify getting new ones with a composite toe. I generally wear through boots in about a year.

These fucking boots WILL NOT DIE. They are still WATERPROOF. I haven't had to so much as replace the laces. They're incredible. I bought a size larger than needed and made up the difference with a couple of insoles and it's like walking on a cloud plus I seem a couple of inches taller. My feet don't even hurt after a 12 hour shift.

Title basically. I have a decently large solid wood desktop (guessing around 72"x30"x1") that supports two computer monitors, two studio monitors, a tower computer hanging under it, a laptop on it, and a decent amount of clutter because it's a decently sized space I spend a lot of time sitting in front of. I'm currently using Ikea IDÅSEN legs (they were a lot cheaper in early covid) and they're stable, but man are they slow to go up. They have no problem going down though, lol.

It would be nice to have an equally solid pair of legs stability wise that go up faster with some weight on them. Any suggestions?

Thanks!

I'm talking abundant I/O, great repairability/easy to open, maintain. A laptop from back when laptop manufacturers didn't hate us.

The closest I got was a dell latitude 5500 which has decent I/O and a pretty modern processor.

If Lenovo were to make a modern T42 or something like that, not sparing the ports.

For some additional details, it'd mainly be used for lighter resource tasks like writing documents, maybe dabbling with some coding, not necessarily aimed at any high end gaming, or heavy video editing. For this reason I'd really dig the keyboard having a num-pad, and while I didn't think I'd have to look for this on laptops of all things...I'd like it to have a headphone jack.

Ideally I'd be able to pop a Linux distro on it for longevity's sake, and longshot maybe be able to open it up to upgrade RAM/storage (not a dealbreaker if not though).

I've found some okay looking laptops in a light search so far, but I'm curious about others' recommendations here (as well as any warnings on which to avoid).

I am looking for a compact travel router that I can use to always appear in my home country when I am travelling. This router should have a killswitch if the VPN is disconnected so as to avoid leaking my location.

Hi, I am currently running Big Sur in my MacBook Pro 2014 which is the latest OS supported by Apple (and I don't know for how long they will) I have used Open Core Legacy Patcher before and ran Monterey with it, and then upgraded to Ventura, I wasn't happy with the end result because Ventura was pretty fresh by the time and in order to find a cleanest version I rolled back to Big Sur.

Now I am dealing with some issues when my Mac is on battery (which was replaced recently), and a fresh install of Big Sur didn't help, so now I am thinking about upgrading it again in order to do some troubleshooting, now that Sonoma is almost on the table (actually haven't checked if it is coming for this model).

If you have a this or similar model what would you recommend?
