Eh, the UI kinda sucks. I agree that it's still incredible for a free and open source app

  • Blender
  • the whole *arr stack
  • osu!lazer
  • proton
  • MultiMC (back then when it used to be "new" and everyone was using TechnikLauncher and the FTB launcher. So 2016/17)
  • Element

Edit:

  • Stable Diffusion
  • LLaMA (kinda open source)
  • Firefox
  • Chromium/Node/Electron
  • VSCode
  • FFMPEG

you can't compare them since they're build for different things, serve a different purpose and work completely diffrently

I think thats against the rules for some reason. Probably because they don't want to moderate all that

I'm a pretty active user on the site and I almost exclusively use 3rd party apps because their official apps suck ass.

I'm talking about active in the sense of at least 30 comments a day and 15 posts since the beginning of this year.

I would guess that most power users and mods are using a 3rd party client. So they would lose a lot of users who create content and many communities will die.

Not to mention that they basically want to kill all of NSFW reddit so these communities will die too.

It's royalty-free and closed. So it's free to use but it's not free as in you have the freedom to do with it whatever you want.

HEVC is also a patended codec. Also it's proprietary too and they're even more closed than AV1

You could say the same about HEVC

[โ€“] zekiz@lemmy.ml 4 points 2 years ago* (last edited 2 years ago) (1 children)

It's proprietary and requires you or the project that wants to use it to buy a license. That's why the codec coast money on Windows and also why most browsers don't support it and never will.

Also AV1 is just superior in every way.

Still better than HEVC in many ways
