'Nothing we can do about this' says only country where this happens regularly.

Yea, I got robbed and the cop who turned up spent the time he was there berating me and telling me that it was my fault.

Not to mention that Coutts was an illegal blockade in which people were conspiring to assassinate police officers whereas this is legal job action to try and negotiate a living wage. Legislating away someone's right to withhold their labour is okay how??

Wanting to be a a police officer is like being a political leader - anyone who wants the job is inherently unqualified.

And on top of that, the government changed the law to retroactively grant her a shortcut to the bar. The Barristers Act was amended to say that anyone who has served as Attorney General of Ontario is automatically eligible to be called to the Bar. This change was implemented after she was no longer serving in the role. Also, she is designated as a non-practicing lawyer. So the Mulroney was not a lawyer in Ontario while AG, has never met the requirements to be a lawyer in Ontario until those requirements were changed to allow her a non-practicing designation, and her contributions to the law in Ontario were so profound as to merit a designation

given to lawyers who have demonstrated a commitment to the pursuit of legal excellence in service to the Crown, the public and their communities.

But this is TOTALLY NOT MEANINGLESS PATRONAGE.

Do I have that right?

I agree - and for better or worse, lemmy.ml is likely to be many users first experience with lemmy. As a new user myself, I subbed to a bunch of communities on lemmy.ml because it's what I interpreted as being the 'core' of lemmy. Ambiguous rules - especially ones resulting in bans for discussing articles from high quality news sources - is problematic and likely to turn some people off. This is particularly an issue when lemmy is building towards critical mass.

One of the principal complaints about reddit is power tripping mods - and it's distressing to see that seemingly built into the DNA of lemmy.

The flip side of course is that this has sort of opened my eyes to the power of lemmy and the fediverse.
