There was a thread on hackernews a few days ago (maybe even yesterday, time is a construct) where someone shared a screenshot of a pop up ad served to them by the OS itself.

Wtf. Why would anyone willingly use that crap?

My employer was not part of this trial but has been doing this since Spring 2022. There's been no increase in hours/workday or decrease in salary (and in fact, I got a raise---I think most people got at least a COLA).

We ran our own trial and the results are honestly even more positive than I would've thought myself.

I've been taking handwritten notes using my Rocketbook when I'm away from the computer, and I'd like to get them into my vault via a workflow more reasonable than emailing myself my notes and then copying them to Obsidian.

Does anyone do this? What's your workflow?

I already looked for plugins and there are none.

I used to live in Wisconsin, close enough to Chicago to go on day or weekend trips often. I absolutely love Chicago, it's a great city to visit, but I'll never forget going to the Field Museum with my parents once and seeing signs warning against bringing guns into the building.

The reminders that you live in a violent society are always there, even in the most innocent of places. I'd rather have to save up longer to buy a new laptop or only have good pineapple for a few months in the summer than live that way.

I'm a big anti-car person (I'm middle aged and gave never owned one) and that made me roll my eyes. Someone should tell them about that, actually. And that the media doesn't report on that is ridiculous (though I suppose it's not the point of this particular story).

Oh absolutely we need to fund social services better, but in the meantime can we at least push (our reps to push) the Big 3 to allow people to stay connected.

It won't fix the problem, but that's not what I'm talking about when I say we should be able to call or text on the subway.

I'm not sure how to describe it beyond saying life feels a lot less confrontational here in Canada, even living in the largest city in the country.

Obviously there are problems here, but it feels much more like an actual society than a collection of people who happen to live near each other.

It's not even about healthcare or anything specific, those are just symptoms IMO. It's a larger philosophical difference between the countries

Cell service on the TTC needs to be a priority

No way. I moved here from there (I'm Canadian now!) and every day I'm gladder I got out.

I'd probably make more money there, but there are things I value more than money and my life is significantly better in Toronto than it ever was in any of the three states I lived in.

Imagine thinking people are so stupid that they'll believe you've been 'an LGBT supporter all your life" three seconds after they read your claim that "LGBT values are an invasive culture change". Be serious man.

Side note, what are LGBT values? I'm a lesbian, my core values are like... Competence, curiosity, integrity, courage, dependability... all of them things that can be valued and exhibited by cishet people too. Not you obviously, but others.

He was, yes.

I saw similar sentiments expressed by some people "they shouldn't have killed him, but..." and it made me want to scream. Are we so surprised dehumanizing people ends up some of them dying? Those people were part of the problem and didn't even know it.

I became a citizen this month after applying back when we still had a Queen and I got tripped up when saying the oath due to this---I'm on my 30s, there's been a Queen forever, I'm not used to having a King. I'm sure I'll get used to it at some point but man that felt weird.
