The Republicans have won the presidency three times this century, but have only won the popular vote once, on George W. Bush’s second campaign in 2004. The Electoral College screwed us over in 2000 (Bush vs Gore) and 2016 (Trump vs Clinton).

The Deomocrats have also won the presidency three times this century, but also carried the popular vote every time they did. (Also, every time they won, Joe Biden has been on the ticket…)

The last Grumman LLV rolled off the assembly line 30 years ago, and has been probably been driven six days a week, except federal holidays, ever since. I’m not surprised they’re on their last legs.

I heard the Dawg Pound in Cleveland is going to pretty empty this Sunday, too. (I’m sure it has nothing to do with Browns having a road game in Jacksonville.)

If he floods the market with shares, I wouldn’t be surprised if the price craters so hard it gets delisted.

“This… former president” is also up there. It’s so much fun thinking of all the other options she swallowed during that pause.

It’s a little complicated, because the school district gets its own budget even though the town and the school district have the same boundaries, and school and town taxes are billed and payed together.

School: $51M Town: $19.2M Police expenses: $3.5M

So 18% of municipal expenses, or 5% of municipal + school.

Interestingly, only 3/4 of the municipal income comes from property tax. The rest comes from licenses, permit fees, service fees, registration fees for rec council programs, and even the concession stand revenue at the municipal ice rink.

Reminds me of a passage from my favorite Discworld book, Night Watch.

“I didn’t think you was stupid, Mister Vimes…”

“What?” said Vimes, looking down suddenly. Carcer was smiling cheerfully.

“I said I didn’t think you was stupid, Mister Vimes. I know a clever copper like you’d think I’d got two knives.”

“Yeah, right,” said Vimes. He could feel his hair trying to stand on end. Little blue caterpillars of light were crackling over the ironwork of the dome, and even over his armour.

“Mister Vimes?”

“What?” Vimes snapped. Smoke was rising from the weathercock’s bearings.

“I got three knives, Mister Vimes,” said Carcer, bringing his arm up.

The lightning struck.

It doesn’t even matter. Even if Taylor Swift never makes another dollar, she’s still set for life.

It didn’t matter what the question was, Trump kept turning it back to immigration. He’s only got one talking point, and it’s based on fear of the other.

“Melania keeps bringing it up all the time, I don’t understand why.”

Such projection. Trying to drastically change the rules less than two months before Election Day, that’s rigging.

Why do we have to keep fighting for a higher minimum wage? We should just set it at a livable rate then have it automatically adjusted annually based on CPI or a similar economic metric.
