Replacing the linear elements with switchers means more noise in the power lines. How much more, and whether it's noticeable or tolerable will be down to you.

The call for designs was open for weeks. This is what came in.
I'm plesantly surprised at the number of voters. I went with this format, instead of what you suggest or a third party voting site, thinking there would only be a handful of replies!

Dunno if these guides for setting up the software under Wine will help - I'll have to try it sometime.
