what hapoens if you disable that setting that obviously requires groups to work? do you then get the option to disable the groups as well?

Precision location leaks data about surrounding wifi networks to google. You can disable it, because a lot of people are uncomfortable with that.
All my smart phones were Android, but not on purpose: Before buying one, I always entered my size and feature preferences (4G, NFC, water resistant, wireless charging, etc) in multiple sites like https://m.gsmarena.com/search.php3 and the best fits for the best price were always Android phones 🤷
those were klingons. they basically did them a favor, engaging in a fight
it would be better, to be able to block a whole domain/instance per user, like we can do it with communities
