@EnglishMobster @Gaywallet Some years back I was moderating GMod-communities and we had a similar power structure. You would initially publicly (in a forum) apply for a moderation role, where everyone could comment on the prior experiences they have had with you and if the resonance is good you would become a Trial-Moderator, where you would be coached by a senior-member of staff. If you did well, you would be promoted to higher roles, to eventually teach new staff yourself.

@EnglishMobster @Gaywallet I think this is a way you could take that would actually work, seeing as more trusted people essentially have more power. And as long as the people in power don't radically change their opinions there would be very little potential for abuse. Especially if moderator-actions for example had to go through review, meaning that if a moderator decides to do something another moderator has to sign off on it.

@dl007 I have used ChatGPT in the past to help me explain topics in a simple manner, but those were topics I knew about and could confirm that the provided information was actually correct.

@tux0r @strudel6242 I don't wanna be that person, but 'btw i use arch' and I think you might like Arch Linux (or Gentoo if you aren't keen on systemd, the only difference being with Gentoo you compile most stuff yourself, whereas with Arch you only compile some stuff yourself) But both Distros have minimal overhead, aren't junk (like Ubuntu) and have very broad and active support for a lot of stuff. Especially with the AUR, there is almost nothing I can't get on Arch

@nachtigall @tux0r Mastodon has quite a bit of functionality that makes life easier in regards to modding. I don't know how Lemmy performs there.

@tux0r Mastodon is well-documented and I was able to set a node up in an hour or so, don't know about OpenBSD tho

@sexy_peach I was (or am currently) using Reddit through Infinity and old.reddit, but have been off and on with the Fediverse since it was first announced Musk might buy Twitter
