I've been using an Osprey Quasar 28 (I think they only sell a 26 now?) for years. You can't beat Osprey's warranty, and the size hits the perfect balance of practical for daily use and usable for longer trips. I've taken it on week-long backpacking trips and it's held up great, my only complaint is that the hip belt is a little thin - but it works well enough... just don't expect to keep you as comfortable as a proper hip belt would.
