welp, if nobodsy else is going to post this, why not?

today is the winter solstice. sunrise where i am in regional victoria was at 7:32am, and sunset will be at sometime close to 5:10pm. this is the least amount of daylight we have for the entire year.

it's also negative 2 degrees here and my front lawn is covered with ice. why can't it rain? clouds are like a blanket keeping the place warm at night, and rainwater is warmer than the air at this time of year ...

there's gonna be another influx of fugees from reddit this week. i noticed there's only about 350 people on this server .. pretty sure that's gonna change.

anyway, here's the modcoord link - https://old.reddit.com/r/ModCoord/comments/14cr2is/alternative_forms_of_protest_in_light_of_admin/

lemmy had over 20 thousand new users signup in the space of a single hour a little while ago https://botsin.space/@threadcount/110567230856441064

it's going exponential

we knew we had the power position when lemmy's world stood it's ground and didn't explode on the day before yesterday.

playing a gig with a band on the weekend? post it here.

going clubbing? post the flyer here

some big massive 3-day festival on out in some farmer's paddock? post that sucker here

know about a bush doof? you know what to do ...

tell them to write a sentence that contains the words they're, there, and their, and use all three of them in a contextually accurate manner.

web of trust, or mywot. puts a little sign next to every link telling you if they're trustworthy. fucken game changer. botsight is a great one for twitter. and buzzkill, well, kills buzzfeed

when has the narrative ever changed away from that attitude? look at how mutahar has acted - knowing that we're doing the right thing but still throwing as much contempt into everything as he possibly can. the only times that people side with mods is when we're taking enormous damage so that general users don't cop it instead, or if there's a power-mad despot who should never have control of anything larger than a toy train

so what's the full specs of the machine? would building one of them and then running it at home from an NBN connection be viable, or would it lag to hell more than lemmy's world about 12 hours ago?

btw when it's time for money, i'll put one hand up and the other into my pocket. this is the sort of thing that i would be happy to fund.

if it happens in Australia then it doesn't matter what type of gig it is - pup gig, club night, 3-day festival, or even an underground bush doof - this is the place to tell people about it

yeh i suppose that's a good starting point and i'd let someone know if it was getting too clogged. i doubt that is going to happen for a few weeks at the very least tho, and by that stage i will very likely be in a position to be able to build an instance of my own

yes, they would be focused on the various live music scenes that they represent. i think live events would be more important for the entertainment industry than genre-focused communities which could easily be covered in other instances. being more activity-based than interest, i believe that they would benefit from a uniquely australian position

nah, crypto is smoke-and-mirrors and he knows that this isn't, so he's run away

[–] a_crappy_pirate@aussie.zone 6 points 1 year ago

the instance that i'm typing from is being hosted in someone's cupboard with some pretty off-the-shelf parts. i'v probably got enough parts for something similar laying around my house. if instances stay to low populations and the workload is distributed amongst all of them, it's not actually stressing the system all that much at all.

that being said, as soon as the aussie zone sysadmin asks for financial assistance, i'll be putting my hand into my pocket. again, if enough people do that then it's not much of a cost at all

the thing that did happen with digg that didn't happen with heaps of other websites was a negatively received UI change. people hated it.

now, people deliberately don't use the reddit mobile app because it fucking sucks, and closing down the alternatives is a negative UI change ...

the specific one that i'd be interested in modding would be "doofs" but there's also "festivals" and "clubs" and "gigs" because the four groups are, believe-it-or-not, quite diverse in tastes and would not be interested in going to each others' parties. also those groups are frikkin HUGE in reality, basically entire age cohorts. i'd be willing to mod them all or anywhere else you need until other people who want it more show up. i have experience modding, and even more being a junior mod who just takes orders and keeps their mouth shut. if i don't mod them, could you please create them anyway? any method of getting word out for gigs on the cheap is appreciated

could i at least have "reggae" as well as doofs tho? fucken love aussie reggae as well as dance

[–] a_crappy_pirate@aussie.zone 2 points 1 year ago

ahh i just noticed where you're from. i'm trying to link to lemmy.world. your instance hasn't let me log in.

[–] a_crappy_pirate@aussie.zone 3 points 1 year ago (2 children)

it shouldn't, but i cannot see either c/dub or c/reggae even tho i have DMed myself the literal links to them. maybe the instances need to sync again? i think the last time that happened was something close to 15 hourts ago
