I agree with you about being skeptical here. It appears that this was likely just someone who screwed up. I doubt it was a conspiracy or intentional. In fact, both parties ended up suing to keep polls open:

As ballots ran short, groups filed two lawsuits to try to give people more time to vote Tuesday night. One was filed by the nonpartisan group Mississippi Votes, and the Mississippi Republican Party initially supported it. The other was filed by the Mississippi Democratic Party.

Yeah, no, I don't like the smell, taste, or texture. I have made natto for her in an instant pot, though. She said it came out okay but I still didn't eat it!

Hah, my Japanese wife has convinced me to eat them too. I eat about 50% of them now.

Honestly, as replacements for their legacy, these look spot on. Modern versions of what came before. I'm so glad the postal workers are receiving new, safer equipment.

Right now, if he were able to convert all of his $241.8B to cash, then distribute it evenly among all of the employees at all of his companies, he could give each of his 146,000 employees $1.6M.

No one person should be that wealthy. I don't necessarily think that billionaires should be abolished, but I do think they should be paying a shit load more in taxes than they are.

Also, before anyone says it, yes, I know it's not as simple as converting his holdings to cash. I'm just saying "if it were possible".

Right? The $5k dependent care FSA does save me about $1k per year but I'm still shelling out $21k for day care with $16k taxed.

Whether they have wifi on ship or not isn't the issue. Sometimes, when a ship goes into an operation, they will turn off all signals except passive or directed signals so that they can't easily be detected. Having a communications signal that isn't under the control of the ship's officers is a huge security risk during operations.

Someone is going to be court martialed over this.

Like, you hire a contractor to do work for you and ask them to let you apprentice for them at the same time and they go for it? I would love doing this so I don't have to hire a contractor the second time! What do you say to them to get them to agree?

Entropy Man would be a scary accidental villain. Just random acts of chaos as they go through life until enough shit goes wrong and they become persecuted. The they learn to use their powers for revenge against an unjust society.

I take it that you would argue that the media bias bot is worse than nothing?

I'm not arguing in favor of the media bias bot in particular here. I'm just kind of thinking about what might be a better solution. Given the fractured media landscape at the moment, it seems unreasonable to expect everyone to immediately have know the various biases of each news source. Having tools that help with that, even if they are themselves biased, seems like a good starting point for understanding the bias of different news organizations. Is there a better way to develop a similar tool that provides more useful information?

Okay, I can certainly see that perspective and, after reading the link posted by @ayyy@InEnduringGrowStrong@sh.itjust.works I can see how this scale is problematic in other ways since news bias isn't one-dimensional.

Is there a better way to educate people about the bias of particular new organizations, though? It seems unreasonable to expect everyone to develop their own individual assessment of every news organization. There are simply too many of them offering too many different spins. This attempt at providing something easily digestible seems like a reasonable starting point. It's certainly not perfect and has a lot of room for improvement but is it worse than nothing?

I'm a white guy from a fairly non-diverse city. I was at a grocery store today where a cashier opened up their line to serve me and, I thought, the person behind me. As they were serving me, though, they put up their lane closed sign right in front of the black man behind me. The buy was just trying to purchase some tuna, bread, and peanut butter.

The cashier basically decided to serve me, a middle class white man, but refused to serve the black man behind me. I was so shocked that I didn't say anything. It is possible that I misunderstood the situation but it seemed so blatant.

What should I have done in this situation? Should I have spoken up? Would that have just been more embarrassing for the man who was being discriminated against?

Honestly, I'm still just in shock to see someone treated so poorly when they were simply trying to buy food for themselves. I recognize that means that I'm sheltered but I also feel like I should be able to use my unearned privilege to help others who are being discriminated against.

I keep running into issues where I'm unsure of which account I'm currently using. It would be nice if it were more obvious at all times. Two things that would help me are:

  • always display the current user somewhere, regardless of what content is being viewed.
  • allow setting different color themes for different users.

I use Podcast Addict and have recently noticed location-based ads in my podcasts. Adds that are local to my large town / small city. The app doesn't have location permissions, so how are the podcasts embedding localized ads?

They decided to give a show today. Six of them were hanging out on the dock, but when I stopped to take pictures, they all decided to take off and do circles over the lake.

I got lucky and this guy posed for me for about five minutes. I tried to get some in flight, but they're simply too fast for me!

This beautiful bird has been hanging out at our local lake for the last several weeks. I've been trying to get some pictures of him and he finally got close enough for my lenses.

Three or four of these guys have been hanging out in the lake near my house.
