It won't be China that blocks access, it will be the US that does it. We are that fucking stupid.

If altruism is maladaptive to successful reproduction it will eventually die out. Like, if people who help strangers have 1.3 kids on average and people who are like I WANT NO ONE ELSE TO SUCCEED have 1.4 (or whatever number, as long as obe is higher than the other), eventually altruists will be vastly outnumbered or extinct. If it is adaptive they may proliferate.

That is how literally everything that reproduces itself or is reproduced works. I can say this with as much certainty as it is possible to have about anything.

If there is selective pressure for a thing, it wins. It becomes the only truth sooner or later. If you don't like it you need to change the circumstances that cause the selective pressure (good luck). Reality has an insurmountable, inherent survivorship bias. If your ideals do not align with something that is selected for by the processes that ensure reproduction (of life, of class, of institutions) your ideals will eventually die out.

You're talking about kin selection, more or less, and you seem to be seeking the outer limits of it.

If there is selection for it, there can be hope that things won't just degenerate into more shit.

Many users will not notice the difference. Search engines have done this with text searches for going on multiple decades, and I have witnessed people pointing to the first ad result tangentially related to their search and saying THAT'S IT! because they saw their keyword in the title. It's going to make a billion dollars.

Taobao is flooded with used gaming hardware that's largely ex-internet cafe equipment. So they are definitely cycling through a lot of gear. That is likely to be one of the first big markets for it.
