Cool, thanks for the review!
Unboxious
Fun fact: in addition to the meaning we usually see (underestimate), nameru/舐める can also mean "to lick or taste". So the title can translate to either "Don't underestimate bread" or "Don't taste bread".
It can also mean "to burn", but I don't think it works in the sense of burning food. I think it's probably more like "to scorch". I can't seem to find any examples of it being used this way, so I'll hold off on whether "Don't burn bread" is also a valid translation.
Sailor Moon
I finished the Sailor Moon manga last week. It was pretty good! Between the manga and the TV show I'd say I prefer the manga more. The TV show had a lot of filler, and the filler gave lots of opportunities to flesh out the characters of Mercury, Mars, Jupiter, and Venus especially, but it was a much better time experiencing the story at a sane pace instead of waiting dozens of episodes at a time for something to finally happen. The final arc especially was much better this way.
Char's Daily Life
I'm nearly done with the second volume of this one. It's a goofy AU where Char and other Zeon characters, primarily from UC Gundam's One-Year-War, are living in modern-day Japan. Char has amnesia and is just trying to get by. It actually ended up feeling a lot like Gintama, but not quite as cleverly written as Gintama. Still a fun read, and well worth having bought for the cover art alone.
I'm curious to hear peoples' overall impressions of this show; I was considering picking it up. Has it been good so far?
I had no idea this was getting an anime! Something to look forward to with the new year I guess.
I forget, what was going on in this scene? Was this the dragon fight?
I know Aqua said from the very beginning that he intended to get revenge no matter the cost to himself, but it's still a little surprising to see it end like this.
I'm two episodes from the end right now, and once it got past the slow start this show was really excellent!
is there a christmas-themed anime movie?
It's not a movie exactly, but at only 6 episodes Mobile Suit Gundam 0080: War in the Pocket is roughly movie-length. If I remember right it doesn't require any prior knowledge of Gundam, either. It's not exactly Christmas themed, but as I recall it takes place in December and there's Christmas decorations and stuff in the background of some scenes.
A bit of a stretch, I know.
1 LN volume is not equal to 1 manga volume is not equal to 1 anime season. So…open to ideas on that one.
I was going to suggest a certain number of chapters, but it occurs to me that 1 manga chapter is not always equal to 1 manga chapter; manga from monthly magazines tend to have much longer chapters on average. Anyways, I think 1 discussion thread for 1 volume of manga per week is a good pace. Since it's a smaller community having a lot to talk about at once might help to make the discussion threads more active.
I think a good candidate series would be something short, but with good ratings overall. Most of my favorite manga have at least 10 volumes though so I dunno.
For me it's got to be Skip and Loafer. It has the most human characters I've seen in a manga, which makes every character interaction a delight.
Curiosity sated. Thanks!
This one is weird to me. When it's trying to be funny or charming I think it almost always succeeds. When it's trying to be cool or edgy (most of the time unfortunately) it almost always fails.
