Assuming you are talking about in the US, shelter is included in inflation calculations. You can argue about the methodology, but the cost of having a home is in there and does contribute to inflation. It is about 30% of the overall basket.

Via Rail is a complete disaster imo. They take the bad from air travel and bring it to rail. They act like their service is a premium luxury one, with huge numbers of staff per train, multiple checks of your tickets, etc.

One example of how bad their operations are (not to get into reliability which is a whole other problem) is that when arriving at a station they ask that you remain seated until the train is fully stopped, and then slowly help people get off. Contrast this with trains in Japan as an example, where the announcement says a stop is coming up soon, please be ready to get off as soon as the train doors are open.

In my opinion we don't just need politicians riding Canadian trains. I want them to travel to Europe and Asia and then come back and suffer on via rail. It's not just new dedicated tracks that are needed, it's a complete restructure of the passenger experience!

You're (and some of the people in the post) are conflating the colloquial and actual definition of historical revisionism.

Colloquially it just means lying about history, but the real definition is just reinterpriting history in a way that challenged the orthodox view. A great example is the dark ages, which from studying non Latin texts, many authors argue that the lack of knowledge and learning associated with the dark ages is actually just a lack of source texts in Latin from western mainland Europe.

So as you can see the definition of revisionism in an historical context is value neutral, it would depend on who what and how things are being revised.

The original cities skylines had atrocious performance after a certain city size as well, especially on hardware available at launch. Hopefully they can deliver on better performance over the next few months, I expect it to improve before they do their console release.

Yeah very confused about that first one as it was clearly a foul, he completely takes Diaz out and doesn't get near the ball. If Diaz isn't fouled he is completely free on goal (albeit at a not great angle)

No, it's because you can trace at least some of this specific problem directly back to British imperial rule in the middle east.

I think you're misreading it. In the same way as there are people that need to ride on planes (for example for their job, or to move to where they have a job, etc), there are people that need to use social media.

For example, if you own an online store you really need to have a social media presence. Same if you are an artist, and live off of commissions. I'm sure there are plenty more examples.

I try to live by the rule of I would rather be alive than dead. Being "right" is no consolation when you're in a hospital bed dying.

The same goes for cars and especially bikers. You may be right, but being right doesn't stop the giant SUV next to you from flattening you.

The whole point of this sub is advocating for changing that and getting rid of car centric development.

I used to watch the YouTuber in n question and they did used to be a really good view into China. However, I stopped watching after he moved to the US and started making classic "China bad" scare content. The only part of the OP that is questionable is the excessive use of cracker, which is a bit distasteful but nothing more.

I would also like to point out that "atrocities done centuries ago" does not apply to White South Africans. Apartheid was what, 40 years ago? Well within living memory.

This is an android enthusiast community. For a lot of people here the answers to that are going to be yes, yes and yes.

Registering to vote is pretty normal. You might not have to because the government already has records of you and that is the same in America for a lot of people. For immigrants in Europe you still have to register!

If you change municipality or state in Europe you might also have to register again so they have you voting in the right local elections.

Inuyama Castle from next to the Kiso River.

Side note, what is the best way to upload higher resolution images here? I've had to cut this picture down to almost a third the size to get it to upload!
