Mine love it out there.

The trick is to bring them inside before it gets cold.

Most people aren't all that well informed and don't do a lot of crtical thinking about their political positions on things. Many people are only guided by their emotions.

If your Church says that life begins at conception, then abortion is killing babies. So you'd be angry about abortions happening.

If you hear a horrible crime, you're angry about that and might want the person that did that crime to be executed. If you never hear about or think about innocent people being execute, never consider the ethical problems with a government killing people, never consider the costs of it, and all the other arguments against the death penalty, then you can go through life thinking there's no problem with it.

And even if you hear the rational arguments, they get overpowered by emotion the next time someone says "abortion is murder" or you hear about a horrible crime happening that might qualify for the death penalty.

You ever say "Scotch tape" when referring to a transparent tape that wasn't made by 3M?

Is it any different?

[–] SpaceCowboy@lemmy.ca 1 points 3 weeks ago (2 children)

It's not all that different from Kleenex, Scotch tape, Xerox, etc. Sometimes brand names become the common name for a product.

He tried many times to prevent covid testing. Because if there's no testing, there's no covid.

So he was all about controlling the narrative about it, because he didn't think of it as a real problem. When the vaccine came out he took credit for it, but then when he got booed by his supporters for taking credit for it, he stopped talking about it.

So while he didn't explicitly say "covid isn't real" or anything, he didn't take it seriously, and didn't make an effort to argue against conspiracy theories promoted by his various minions.

Is your point that technology should never be used for anything other than what it was originally designed for? If that's the case then please stop using TCP/IP for anything other than advancing US military weapons research.

Do you mean Trump's signature?

[–] SpaceCowboy@lemmy.ca 15 points 3 weeks ago (7 children)

As long as you can vote, the system can be fixed. If you don't vote the system may get to a point where it can't be fixed.

If you want that outcome go watch the movie Civil War. You're likely to be one of the people in that refugee camp, or maybe in a mass grave because you're the "wrong kind of American". That's the kind of shit that happens when the system is destroyed.

Also, people aren't going to turn to people that did nothing to oppose fascism to rebuild their society after it was destroyed by fascists. People will say "you were right about that Trump guy." They won't out of nowhere say "you were right about this socialist thing, by golly I wish I did nothing to stop fascism like you did! Why if I was more like you... well things would've still gotten destroyed because you did nothing. But I could've felt smug about things like you are. I want to be more like you!"

Yeah but the First Order launched a fighter attack that took out most of the Resistance leadership, and after that success they decided to not do that anymore. They could've easily spotted any ships trying to escape if they had their fighters constantly harassing the Resistance ships.

So the idiot Resistance plan was to count on the First Order to be idiots. But while they were idiotic enough to not continue using their fighters (which were super effective), but not so idiotic as to not look out the window.

Have some sympathy for Holdo! When you're an idiot in an idiot plot, it's really hard to judge how idiotic your enemy will be.

Depending on the agreements they made, they might lose those tax breaks... and they do care about that.

Does the amount of vicodin he's using put him higher or lower on the graph?
