If I see any, I'll be sure to let you know!

!greater_sudbury@lemmy.ca is actually the 2nd or 3rd oldest city-based community on lemmy.ca . It's not very active, but should definitely be added to this list.

Also, !canadasoccer@lemmy.ca would be a good community to add to the soccer category.

For team-specific Canadian-based soccer teams, there's !torontofc@lemmy.ca of the MLS (US-league with 3 Canadian-based teams). Other MLS sides include Vancouver Whitecaps and CF Montreal, which I don't think have a community created.

None of the 8 Canadian Premier League teams, nor any of the numerous League1 Canada sides have taken steps to establish their communities yet (as far as I know).

Peertube is the Fediverse equivalent. It needs more content, and more instances to host said content, but it's a good start.

Good stuff. I love how it's grown and look forward to seeing more voices discuss the issues that arise.

I'm working on growing !greater_sudbury@lemmy.ca myself, and have tried to limit to 1 or 2 posts per day, just to keep them coming and leave openings for other locals to step in, but without the same kind of response.

Perhaps I'm the one that needs to take on a more aggressive seeding technique...

@gtre@lemmy.ca

I don't have an issue (I was replying to the previous post), especially as I do see value in seeding a community with posts. An empty community is a dead community.

However, it may be of more benefit to spread them out. After all, this is all federated. So anyone following the community from elsewhere (my prior reply was from a Mastodon account), they will receive a big wall of posts from this community all at once, but if they were to log in later in the day, they would see nothing (as it all posted earlier).

It would also allow other people to post something themselves and start a conversation in the post, as opposed to just an unexamined link.

Some might also see it as an attempt at spamming or karma farming (even though that no longer translates). Perhaps those thoughts may be something to consider.

I included wrestling because it always seems like they're hitting each other in their sportsballs whenever I bother to tune in. ;)

I like it. Straight and to the point, with the options you need quickly.

I'm curious; what's the purpose of the waterboarding & purse buttons?

Confirming same issue from lemmy.ca

I found this one, but wanted to connect the new !homeassistant@lemmy.world community and am unable to discover. Might be a federation issue?

Edit: Was able to join. As suspected, not fully federated out yet. To solve: users not on lemmy.world need to use their instance's website (not via an app) and search directly for !homeassistant@lemmy.world and click into the community & subscribe. Once done, it will begin to propogate to your instance as well, helping spread it to others that may be interested.

From the event's site:

What Is SolPunk??

Solpunk22 is a gathering for anyone interested in creating anything solarpunk with others!

Well, what does that actually mean? Is it an un-conference, is it a festival, is it just some punks in a field? We don't know yet, but a wise guess is that punks here are interested in many of the following things:

Lowtech and community tech, Energy reduction and renewables, sharing resources, temporary nomadic community, dancing, alternative economy, creating a just future, hackathons, dumpster diving, opensource hardware, software and production, means of care and solidarity, community

There was a Solpunk gathering last year, held at the grounds of the Myselium Collective, with workshops about solar panels, scuttlebutt/fediverse, edible wild plants, contact dancing, utopian thinking, dumpster diving, psychedelics, planetary meditations, local alternative history, starlight rave dancing and more and all the connections and meetings happening in between it all.

A great opportunity to learn, experience and share. So bring your projects, make a workshop!

Wow, that is incredibly stupid. The City of Regina really needs an update...

Each city has its own bylaws, so it varies quite a bit from one place to another. Some cities have had officers promote the use of hoverboards and the like, while others are very militant.

I have two small kids. I break the spaghetti like this so I don't have to cut up their plates or clean sauce off the ceiling, again...

It works and it makes it easier to portion on plates & prevent my spouse & I from overheating.

In a couple years, when my kids are bigger, hopefully I can return to cooking without snapping...
