I don't have a dog in this fight. I see wrongs being done by both sides in this decades-old war. The self-censorship I am seeing taking place at all kinds of institutions and organizations in the richest democracies is quite alarming. This is the kind of atmosphere people under authoritarian rules live in - speaking as someone who's lived in those types of places. Not a democracy.

Yeah it's not just Canada. It's done in every industrialized country. They do this in Europe including Scandinavian countries where they import African labor for agriculture (for instance they bring in African pickers for blue berries, etc). Same in Japan and Korea I believe.

This is interesting. It was the Thais who were pushing for Dawei port project for the better part of 2 decades. It would give Thais a short-cut around the Strait of Malacca choke point, and shorter route to Europe, Middle East, India and Africa from their manufacturing hub near and around Bangkok. It would also give them easier access to cheap Burmese labor via special economic zones in Dawei. It could also be an alternative port to the Kyauk Phyu Chinese-owned deep water port project in Arakan.

What kind of exploitative capitalism do we have in Canada? And how is this allowed? This is utterly ridiculous!

Regional geopolitical games China and India are playing that has indirect impact on Burma. Burma, similar to Bhutan, shares borders with China and India. Burma with its size geography ethnic diversity and resources is a more complex battle ground of influence for China and India. It also illustrates the expansionist intentions and the lack of respect for national boundaries China has. As with Russia, in 2014 it was just Crimea. Or was it?

And their crime was running from a war at home where their homes had been burned to the ground by a military junta.

A lot of money for poor refugee families who lost their homes to the war in Myanmar running from there and having no livelihood (likely was subsistence farming in the rugged hills of Chin state) no status in India to earn wages in India.

This is interesting because Karen Border Guard are supposedly the ones who have protected and benefited from the Chinese-run scam centers in Myawaddy.

They were initially "neutral" in the conflict, then sided with the Junta resulting in Karen rebels relinquishing the control of Myawaddy. Now they are doing the work that China has ordered Junta to do but wouldn't until operation1027 started - eradicate scam centers.

Yes when the grocery price increases are higher than inflation's rate of increase. When profits of grocery chains are rising higher than rate of inflation in general, they are using inflation as an excuse to keep jacking up prices.

We must find ways to stay together. This only helps the junta and Min Aung Hlaing.
