Sure. naturally the times and exact system is up for discussion or whatnot. just examples.

Afaik kbin doesn't have any indication of such. The etiquette is to put a note when you edit your comment.

Reddit doesn't always put the edit/asterisk mark when someone edits. Rather, it gives a small time period (maybe 5 minutes) to "shadow" edit your comment, without any notification being made. This is to allow quick corrections/typos and the like, without getting marked as an edited comment. then later edits are marked by the system (even if you don't mention the edit).

Reddit's system, combined with a system I see often (on twitter and reddit) where you can see previous versions of the comment, I think are ideal. That way you can see that it's edited, what the previous version was, etc. but also still grant that typos happen without permanently marking something as edited.

Since kbin uses activitypub, I'm actually not sure how the edit feature works here on the fediverse. I know it's possible to edit, but how does syncing with that work?

lemmy users can see kbin magazines but kbin magazines are a bit less discoverable since lemmy in particular has tools to help with finding cross-instance communities. I don't really like lemmy so I didn't bother making my more niche groups lemmy-specific.

ah. so it's using webrtc to function as a tor entry node. okay thank you. yes this is not something I'd want to install on my browser lol, but a lot safer than being an exit node.

this means a censored user is connecting through your extension to access the Internet!

what exactly is it doing? sounds like it turns your computer into a tor exit node? if so, that's super dangerous.

a rarbg copycat group popped up here: https://therarbg.com/ not quite the same but I figure it's worth following and using as a drop-in replacement for rarbg.

I tried private trackers a while back (namely for music with what.cd) and it really wasn't worth it. the stuff they had on there was all just stuff you could find anywhere. and they're so tryhard about ratio that you really couldn't download anything. and any attempts to seed just resulted in larger/faster seedboxes doing the work most of the time.

My family still has netflix so I use that sometimes. But... most of the time I'll download from a few places for movies:

  1. rarbg, though the original went down I found a new one at https://therarbg.com/
  2. yts, again the original went down but I've been using https://yts.mx/ which is fantastic.
  3. stremio. set it up with some plugins and it's pretty useful.
  4. this one is a little weird but https://databasegdriveplayer.xyz/player.php?imdb= I have a browser extension to pop up the relevant link on the imdb page, so I can just click that. not always best quality, but for some rarer titles it really does end up helping.

for client I've always really used transmission. it's small, comfy, works.

kbinauts is what I see

[–] Otome-chan@kbin.social 1 points 1 year ago

it launched today lol. but yeah. if there's search I couldn't figure it out. it only seemed to search users, not posts.

[–] Otome-chan@kbin.social 3 points 1 year ago (4 children)

I went ahead and downloaded/tried it. and... I'm not a fan. First, it's mobile only. No desktop/pc/web. Already a negative. Then it forces instagram accounts, doesn't have it's own. There's literally no search feature I could find, so you're stuck looking at whatever the default feed is, or I guess who you follow? But can't find people to follow unless you search their name directly.

There's no activitypub support currently I think.

all in all I don't like it.

Synchronicity hitting hard today. I was literally just talking about the idea of scroll wheels in place of the usual triggers.
