Terra Nil is mentioned in the article but I must give it a recommendation, it’s very chill and restoring a wasteland or ruined city to a thriving ecosystem is a great counterpoint to building a bustling city.

I’ve never understood why he didn’t get absolutely annihilated during the leadership contest for this. EOTHO was such an obviously ill-thought-out policy, gifting millions of pounds to massive fast food chains while obviously risking the health of everyone in the country.

It never made sense that I could drive to a KFC that was doing great business in spite of the pandemic, and either pay full price for a fairly safe drive-through, or go inside and get a discount while sharing the air with a bunch of people who were also more interested in a cheap meal than their own health.

More than any other MP he has blood on his hands.

I wouldn’t read that much into it. By-election turnouts are almost always dreadful for many reasons and apathy is only one of them.

Go on Liz, split your party and force an early GE. Lib Dem sleeper agent strikes again.

I wonder if this has to go through the IEP process as Bone did? If so it might be a while before we see any movement towards a suspension. Sounds fairly cut and dry though.

It’s about as serious a punishment as the Commons has. Assuming the report is approved by the Commons, he’s up for a recall petition which will only let him keep his job if his constituents allow it. Remember that this isn’t a criminal court of law, there’s no police or lawyers on both sides. And it can’t be allowed for MPs to “just be fired”, as that power could be misused by any party in power to oppress their opposition.

If it gets approved by the House of Commons, then yes, the next step is a recall petition.

I’ve set up a couple of prediction markets based off this:

Will Peter Bone be suspended from the House of Commons?

I think this one is probably a YES, even in its’ current state the Tories cannot sweep under the carpet repeated instances of bullying or sexual misconduct. And TBH I think their majority in Wellingborough is high enough that they can probably risk a by-election and have it not be a guaranteed loss.

Conditional on Peter Bone MP being suspended from the Commons, will there be a By-Election in Wellingborough?

This one I think is a slight YES too, these petitions have mostly resulted in by-elections but there’s not been that many of them to reliably say that they always go that way. From what I can tell Bone is a relatively popular local MP, so it’s going to depend on whether or not Labour have the local resources to ensure enough signatures get onto the petition.

Wild that we are a few percentage points away from (assuming no changes before election day, which won’t happen, and that polls are totally accurate, which they aren’t) Labour getting a majority of all votes cast. That’s nuts.

I think about this show often. Great concept, I did find the first episode online once and felt that it was probably one of those shows that doesn’t hold up when you’re an adult.

I have to presume tactical voting was rife, plugging these figures into a Scotland electoral calculus with their most recent national figures suggests the SNP would be completely wiped out in Scotland. I’m not convinced things are that bad for them yet. Still, I think Labour are likely to take a majority of Scottish seats.

They’re supporting Liz Truss, so they’re obviously insane. But are they insane enough to collapse the government and bring about a general election where many are at risk of losing their seats? I don’t understand their game plan, but that might just be because I have a basic grasp of cause and effect.
