I just use "spouse" most of the time. We're not married. Fucks given: 0

I've been trying to talk my spouse into watching that one for years. She refuses. Sigh.

I picked the wrong week to stop huffing hairspray.

Once upon a time, nobody could ever need more than 640kB of RAM. Every "hardware ceiling" ends up being a temporary plateau. How long that plateau lasts is anyone's guess. They'll chase "content" for awhile, and then some form of content will demand more power for something either new or evolved, and it'll be back to hardware races.

Either way, as long as a market exists for dedicated gaming consoles (hi, I'm that market, zero desire to maintain a PC after 25 years in IT) they'll stick around.

Agreed. Anyone with half a brain knows that it's going to be Canada that takes us into WW3. With the world distracted by all of the other hostile land grabs, Canada will seize the initiative and take Greenland since it's likely to live up to its namesake soon. This will set off Britain's alarm bells, and they'll take Iceland as a hedge against Canuck imperialism. And once Britain is distracted enough, Argentina will be all, "fucking finally" and take the Falklands. Never one to miss an opportunity for oil, the US will decide to preemptively seize Antarctica before the Argentines can expand further... just in time for a few ice shelves to break off and become free-floating. And while the sacrifice of Florida, the Mississippi Delta, and about half of New Jersey will be deemed worth it from the US perspective, the sea level rise will make the previous fighting over islands seem pointless.

All of this is ,of course, contingent on no one being idiotic/spiteful/ignorantly self-righteous enough to launch a nuke. That changes the calculus enough that no mere shitposter doing a prolonged ass-pull could realistically predict beyond "so much for mutually assured destruction."

JFC. I'm getting anxiety just looking at the call log. Grats on the appointment though. You're right, the hoops are absolutely ridiculous.

His name is Tingle btw.

...45 minutes of glitch chaining. Just... how.

Steps taken:

  1. Wake up
  2. Pop bloons
  3. Get out of bed (only when biologically necessary)
  4. Take pills
  5. Eat breakfast
  6. Sit on toilet
  7. Watch half a dozen videos on how to Do Thing
  8. Rest aching back by laying down
  9. Watch half a dozen videos about how to maybe not Do Thing and Do Better Thing instead (that will definitely take more than the day of work I had allowed for it, be backbreaking, and something I have never done before, but will also be more permanent and beneficial in the long run)
  10. Discuss Thing with spouse
  11. Nod off
  12. Open Big Box Hardware Store app and put supplies in cart
  13. Price compare Do Thing and Do Better Thing
  14. Fret about day getting late
  15. Get out of bed when absolutely biologically necessary
  16. Eat dinner
  17. Watch videos unrelated to Thing
  18. Post about it on lemmy as I watch the sun go down

Still left to do:

  1. Thing

You know how some videos really get in the weeds when it comes to technical stuff? This video is almost all weeds lol. But it was fascinating to watch Timber stack glitch upon glitch and find the timing windows necessary to skip getting all of the GSI abilities (with the exception of amiibo).

ObligatoryI have no idea how people have the time, dedication, patience, and ingenuity to figure this stuff out.

Please suggest some Gundam-like shows to watch

Hi all, I came back to anime after a long hiatus thanks to Witch from Mercury.

Since then, I've watched a bunch of anime - including many masterpieces - but nothing could scratch that itch like a Gundam series could.

So now I'm look for more Gundam shows to watch.

It doesn't have to be Gundam exactly (or even anime!). As long as it shares the main features, I would consider it to be Gundam.

From what I observed, the following themes are essential to Gundam series:

War - To be specific, it shows how war is bad, and that nobody truly wins in a war.

Child soldiers - Usually forced to fight, or manipulated into fighting (by people who would usually get revealed to be the real villains later).

Politics - What started the war, or kept the war going. The politicians tend to be the ones manipulating others.

"Mecha" - I am using the term mecha loosely here, because it doesn't really have to be a robot that's piloted. It can simply be some kind of enhancement or weapon of war, or something symbolic.

Tragedy - In war, people are obviously going to die. Personally I would prefer if the main cast gets a happy ending though.

Discrimination - It can be discrimination over race, class, etc.

Other themes that I have noticed are common but not really essential include:

romance subplot - Looks like in war, love gives people hope, as well as the drive to keep on living.

dystopian setting - It could be the lasting effect of previous wars, or the consequences of politics.

Finally, these are not really themes, but I've noticed these trends:

  • there's usually an ensemble cast
  • the protagonist's team tend to switch sides in the later stage of the show to fight against the true villains
  • the mechas would progressively get upgraded over the course of the show

To avoid overlaps, here are the Gundam-like series that I have watched / plan to watch.

Planning to watch (based on hearsay about their similarity to Gundam):

Thanks in advance for the recommendations.
