I kinda of get where the concern comes from and I am very much not a conservative.

My concern with censorship is that if we instrument a legal way for the government to force media (social or otherwise) to suppress a point of view, that it will be later used against us.

It's great if we want to silence Nazis, but I feel that the US is dangerously close to being taken over by Nazis! I think Trump has a legit chance of winning (hopefully he is not allowed to run based on the insurrection clause) and I can definitely see GOP getting legislative majority too. I don't like to think about a MAGA controlled government having the ability to control the discourse of the people..

But obviously, things would be better without all the hate and disinformation being spread like it currently is. MAGA and qanon and all that authoritarian bullshit really is like a mind virus....

I dont have a solution, but I don't think censorship is worth the risk. I guess all we can do is continue to socially stigmatize hateful speech and disinformation.

/tg/ is the same as it always was. That type of nerd never changes much. I still go there on occasion to see what's up in indie RPG and wargames.

Yeah it sucks the family ignored the quarantine orders, I agree. Maybe they should be held liable for that.

What concerns me more, and what we should be talking about, is that the kid shows up at the hospital and two other patients contact the disease. At the hospital.

Being at a hospital should not be a threat to ones health. This along with other hospital borne illness and the insane amount of preventable deaths from medical negligence should concern all of us.

This is wholesome and great.

I'm not sure I would want my ip address being tied to the activity of a large amount of strangers who want to hide their IP address. Seems like a good way to get a visit from the friendly neighborhood black van.

I'm pretty sure the major things that need to change are in the brain. Predeliction for violence and hate, addiction to controversy and toxins, and whatever makes people stupid enough to support facists.

How are there enough Americans supporting these facists that they feel comfortable saying shit like this?

I don't think I want to live here anymore.

I'm curious as to why these companies are doing this. The article isn't clear. It does mention "public pressure" but that's never really stopped a company, especially if they are making crazy profits, from continuing to make those profits. Big pharma doesn't just stop over charging out of the goodness of their hearts.

Is there some new regulation or foreign competitor behind this?

We are the same. Piracy has been my longest running hobby, and now I self host all the stuff that pirates for me. I use docker containers running on my Ubuntu server.

Also games, especially retro handhelds.

Nice to see someone out there with such similar interests! 🤜🤛

I have a short story that perfectly exemplifies the problems with Google and the Internet in general.

I dropped a melatonin gummy on the floor near my dog, and then I couldn't find it (he didn't eat it, it rolled under the couch). So I did what anyone would do, and googled "my dog ate melatonin".

The first result was an article that said "melatonin is perfectly safe for dogs to eat, no worries!". Whew! Coast is clear! I wiped the nervous sweat from my brow and felt my panic melt away...

But just as I was about to close Google, I see that the second result states clearly "melatonin is toxic for dogs, your dog is gonna die and it's your fault. Call the vet now!". (I exaggerate, but it definitely said toxic and to call emergency vet services). Panic resumes, sweat returns.

Dude.... What the fuck am I supposed to do in that situation? Both of the articles seemed like they were legit and yet had wildly different messages.

Thankfully I found the gummy a few minutes later and didn't end up at the emergency vet, but it was a confusing and concerning situation.

This doesn't even bring up the garbage AI generated content that is now 9 out of 10 top results from Google. If you don't want that shit, and want something written by a human being, you basically have to put "Reddit" in your query.... And I think I know how most of us here feel about Reddit...
