I would love to think that people wouldn’t just vote based on who they recognize most from TV but here we are

“But muh capitalism breeds innovation”

All the fucking awful CEOs are idolizing him and Bezos and everyone like them, too far up their own assholes to care that they’re idolizing exploitation and their employees hate their guts.

if forced to reopen, they should do it (rather than get pushed out and effectively give admins full control), but allow only a single new mod post every day- “day 5 of forced reopening discussion thread” and lock every other post.

Speaking as someone who lives in the US, the reason why people “prefer” it is because it’s embedded into the culture that public transportation is for poor people- temporarily embarrassed millionaires and all that. And the reason for that cultural programming is because auto manufacturers and airlines have consistently lobbied against any improvements to public transportation from the very beginning, and even had a hand in specifically designing cities to require cars. China has bullet trains that could get us safely and comfortably from one side of the country to the other in 4 hours. Most EU countries have safe, cheap, accessible public transportation that EVERYONE uses.

At the end of the day, it’s just another capitalist ploy.

Dusty Joe Texas: ok so the first thing you should know is that I’m all about personal liberty and freedom, and having guns to defend those rights from a tyrannical government

Conservatives: yes, love that, big fan

Dusty Joe Texas: I love living in the country and having my old pickup truck

Conservatives: 🥰

Dusty Joe Texas: another thing that’s super important is strong unions, workers need to rise up and take power away from the wealthy and demand the rights and the compensation that is owed us, through violence if necessary, and it’s nearly always necessary

Conservatives: wait

Dusty Joe Texas: also if I see any capitalist pigs from the bank trying to take land or resources away from me or anyone else in my community I’m going to [redacted] their [redacted] and [redacted] until their [redacted] is [redacted]

Conservatives:

Dusty Joe Texas: also I think we should provide for the poor and all others in our communities who are unable to take care of themselves because that’s what Jesus said to do

Conservatives: 💀

Referring to his employees as “snoos” really fucking rubs me the wrong way

This is the only instance I’ve seen this happening on- the other ones switch to dark mode when I switch my browser, but this one doesn’t. Any idea how to fix this?

About a week ago- might be easier to use the direct link https://lemmy.ml/c/totk

This is mine! Thanks for sharing

The easiest way is to copy the full url of the community- e.g., https://lemmy.world/c/196, and paste it into your search bar. Once you click on it, you will still be on your instance, but viewing the remote community, where you can subscribe from the sidebar.

Just a note- if you are searching for a remote community and you see that it has 0 subscribers (in the search results), that means no one on YOUR instance has subbed yet. If you subscribe, those posts will start showing up in All for everyone on your instance.

This appears to be one of the most limiting factors in Lemmy right now and is not unique to Mlem. Essentially, your instance can only “see” communities that at least one user on that instance has subscribed to.

Example: I’m on the lemmy.blahaj.zone instance. I’m not subscribed to !196@lemmy.world, but someone on lemmy.blahaj.zone IS, thus it shows up in my All feed:

lemmy.directory is trying to solve this by subscribing to as many communities as they can find, serving as an “/r/All” for Lemmy as a whole. But you can’t make an account there, so the idea is you browse the directory and subscribe to any communities you like, thus making them available to other users on your instance.

When I switch to Hot/All, I see a ton of posts from a German language community (and I don’t speak German). If I block the community to keep it from showing up, does it hurt them in any way? Like, I don’t want to contribute to them getting banned or something for being blocked too many times…

Here’s the idea- for the true patriots, we need something to set us apart since technically the American flag can be construed to include the gays, satanists, etc. I’m thinking some snazzy armbands! It would have to look good with any outfit though. Normally I would say, go with the classic red, white, and blue, but the blue might get washed out a bit since politicians wear blue suits a lot… so maybe we stick with just the red and white? Ooh and we’ll need a logo- something that will let everyone know exactly what we stand for. That can be in black, to stand out better. Does anyone have any ideas?
