I have a @edu.<...>.com account that is owned by google but the login happens outside of google and a callback gives gmail the access to the account. How can i use that account with a FOSS client?

Thunderbird and K-9 Mail almost certainly will allow you to access your @edu emails. If there's a prevention enforced by the institution, Canary Mail is a solid fall back.

Edit: You can access the needed account info in the Gmail settings page and you'll need to grant whatever program third party access to your email as well.

If it supports Oauth K-9 Mail probably works.

I think if the client supports Oauth it should work. Though I've had all sorts of trouble with vivaldi mail

Unrelated but what is your name based on? It's giving me all sorts of uh, presque vu
